Resizing is extremely difficult or impossible: Because the tension setting's function depends on the band's precise calibrated compression, resizing the band fundamentally alters its spring tension and may compromise the stone's security. Requires specialized craftsmanship: The precision required to cut the stone grooves to exact tolerance and calibrate the band compression is significantly higher than for a prong or bezel setting. Stone replacement is complex: If the center stone ever needs to be replaced — due to loss or damage — the replacement stone must match the original's dimensions with high precision, as the grooves are cut to the specific stone. A replacement stone of a different size or shape will not fit securely.
Not suited for all stone shapes: Round brilliant and oval moissanite work best in tension settings — the curved girdle profile allows even distribution of compressive force.
