The Lifetime Warranty Explained: What's Covered, What's Not, and How to Claim

The Lifetime Warranty Explained: What's Covered, What's Not, and How to Claim - Moissanite Shine

A warranty is a promise. And like any promise, its value depends entirely on what it actually commits to — not what it sounds like it commits to, but what it says in plain language when you read it carefully. The jewelry industry has a long history of warranties that sound comprehensive and turn out to be narrow, warranties that promise "lifetime" coverage and define "lifetime" as the life of the product rather than the life of the owner, and warranties that make claims so difficult that most customers give up before completing the process.

We want to be different. This guide explains exactly what the Moissanite Shine Lifetime Gemstone Warranty covers, what it doesn't cover, and how to use it if you ever need to. No fine print surprises. No hidden exclusions. Just a clear explanation of what we're committing to and why.

What the Lifetime Gemstone Warranty Covers

The Moissanite Shine Lifetime Gemstone Warranty covers defects in the moissanite stone itself — specifically, any change in the stone's optical properties (color, clarity, brilliance) or physical integrity (cracking, chipping, or fracturing) that results from a defect in the stone rather than from external damage.

In practical terms, this means:

  • Color change: If your D-color moissanite stone develops a yellow or brown tint that was not present at the time of purchase, this is covered. Genuine D-color moissanite does not change color under normal wear conditions, and any color change indicates a defect in the stone.
  • Clarity degradation: If your VVS1 moissanite stone develops internal inclusions or surface blemishes that were not present at the time of purchase and that result from a defect in the stone's crystal structure, this is covered.
  • Stone fracture from internal defect: If your moissanite stone cracks or fractures as a result of an internal defect in the crystal structure — not from external impact — this is covered.

The warranty is for the life of the original purchaser. It does not expire. It does not require annual renewals or registration fees. It is a permanent commitment to the quality of the stone we sold you.

What the Lifetime Gemstone Warranty Does Not Cover

Honesty requires us to be equally clear about what the warranty does not cover. The following are not covered:

  • Physical damage from external impact: If your stone chips or cracks because it was struck against a hard surface, dropped, or subjected to significant physical impact, this is not a defect in the stone — it is damage from an external cause. This is not covered by the warranty. (Note: moissanite at Mohs 9.25 is extremely resistant to chipping, and this scenario is rare under normal daily wear conditions.)
  • Setting damage: The warranty covers the stone, not the setting. Bent prongs, worn plating, loose settings, and other setting issues are not covered by the Lifetime Gemstone Warranty. Setting maintenance is a normal part of jewelry ownership and is the owner's responsibility.
  • Loss of the stone: If the stone falls out of the setting because a prong breaks or the setting fails, the stone loss itself is not covered by the warranty. However, if the stone falls out and is recovered, and the stone itself has a defect, the defect is covered.
  • Normal wear and surface scratching: Moissanite at Mohs 9.25 does not scratch under normal daily wear conditions. If surface scratches appear, they are almost certainly surface contamination (which cleans off) rather than actual scratches. Genuine surface scratches from abnormal wear conditions are not covered.
  • Damage from chemical exposure: If the stone is damaged by exposure to harsh chemicals (bleach, strong acids, etc.), this is not covered. Moissanite is chemically resistant to most substances encountered in daily life, but extreme chemical exposure is not a normal wear condition.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

If you believe your stone has developed a defect covered by the Lifetime Gemstone Warranty, here is the process:

Step 1: Document the Issue

Take clear photographs of the stone in good lighting, showing the specific issue you're concerned about. If possible, take photographs under magnification (a 10x loupe or a macro lens on your phone) to show the specific defect clearly.

Step 2: Contact Our Team

Contact us through our website with your order information, a description of the issue, and the photographs you've taken. Our team will review your claim and respond within 2–3 business days.

Step 3: Stone Evaluation

If the photographs suggest a potential defect, we will ask you to send the piece to us for evaluation. We will cover the shipping cost for warranty claims. Our team will evaluate the stone against the original GRA certificate to determine whether the issue represents a defect covered by the warranty.

Step 4: Resolution

If the evaluation confirms a covered defect, we will replace the stone at no cost to you. The replacement stone will be of equivalent or better grade to the original, and it will come with a new GRA certificate. If the evaluation determines that the issue is not a covered defect, we will explain our findings and discuss other options with you.

Why We Offer a Lifetime Warranty

The honest answer is that we offer a lifetime warranty because we are confident that we will almost never need to honor it for a genuine stone defect. D-color, VVS1, Excellent cut moissanite, properly set and cared for, does not develop defects. The stone's chemical stability, optical permanence, and physical hardness mean that it will look as extraordinary in fifty years as it does today.

The warranty is not a hedge against expected failures. It is a statement of confidence — a public commitment to the quality of what we sell, backed by our certainty that the stones we source and sell meet the standard we claim. If we were not confident in that standard, we would not make the commitment permanent.
